This week, we will be writing a college application essay. For some, you will need to know how to write a well crafted essay to get into the college of your choice. For others not planning on going to college, this is a good exercise to learn how to write about yourself, which you will need when it comes to job interviews. Once you learn the different types of checks, review how to fill out a personal check. Remember, that most checks are filled out in cursive. Even though cursive is slowly diminishing, it is always good to review writing numerical values in cursive. Refer to the button that reads "cursive examples" to see numerical values written out in cursive.
Assignment:
-Write out 5 different two digit numbers in cursive.
-Fill out the blank checks that are on the handout. At least 3 should be written in cursive.
Do your best, you will not be graded on how good your cursive is.

Lease Agreements:

While reading through it, keep a vocabulary list of words you are not sure what they mean. As well as the vocab list, take notes of clauses you do not understand on a separate piece of paper. These can be phrases, numbers, etc. After reading through it, take the list of words and acquire the definitions for them. There must be at least 15 words. After completing the vocab list, please turn it in to the basket. The notes you took, please hold onto until the entire class is finished, we will be reviewing the notes together.

-Checking/saving
-Credit card
-Car loan
-Personal loan
Explain why you chose the institution for each of those accounts. Look at the rates, the monthly payments, and the rewards/penalties that are distributed.

In this lesson, students will learn about the different types of financial institutions available and assess which option may work best for them. They will explore savings opportunities, bank fees and technology-enhanced banking services; and then determine which services they value the most and why.

What you need to do:
Part 1: 30 minutes
Click on the following link to learn about the important facts about banking.
Once you are on the website, read through the introduction and take the "test your knowledge quiz". Write down your score on the handout.
On the left hand side on the webpage under the header "Financial Institutions" proceed to go through the links. While reading through each section, complete the handout on Banks vs. Credit Unions. Only do the banks and credit union section on the handout.
**For extra-credit, listen to the podcast that is listed on the handout and fill out the "Thrift" section.

Before determining what you need (or want) to prepare for your life outside of high school, it is important to create goals and what you want your life to be life.
What to do:
Create a slide show with the following on each page (you can place the slides in any order) and corresponding pictures:
- What is your immediate goal after high school (ex. college, work, travel, etc.)?
- What do you need to do now to start preparing for your immediate goal?
- What is your long term goal?
- Career
- Family
- Location
- Living situation
- What is your five year plan to reach your long time goal:
- What do you need to start doing now to prepare for your long term goal?
- What have you previously done to help prepare you for your future?
- Are your goals different from your dreams?
- If no, explain how they are not different.
- If yes, explain why they are different.
- Is it difficult to answer questions concerning your future, why or why not?
